Biography

Mai’yah Kau they/she (b. 1998) is a Queer Liberian diasporic multidisciplinary artist and community organizer raised and based in Aquehonga Manacknong, Lenapehoking aka Shaolin ( Staten Island, New York). They studied Photography and Global Studies with a concentration in film photography, video art and West African Art at Parsons School of Design (‘20). Through her work she delves into spiritual self expression through food production + migration of food, exploration of queerness through storytelling, music, performance, dance and tales of everyday life in Afro spiritual practices. Mai’yah also documents the personal stories and journeys of her own family tree.
